Welcome to Swiss Hike Guide!

A personal blog about hiking & outdoor activities in Switzerland — routes, hidden trails, the best times to go and where to find the good views.

What I cover on every hike

Routes, timing, crowds, photo spots and how to get there. On most articles I will cover these topics so you can research, plan and hike the best route during the right time and find the spots on the hike that make it all worth it.

Routes & trail info

Where to start, which way to go, and how long it realistically takes. I walk these myself, so the details are honest.

Best time to visit

The Alps change dramatically by season. I’ll tell you when the trail is at its finest and when it’s best left for another time.

Crowds & quieter alternatives

Some of Switzerland’s most beautiful spots are also its busiest. I’ll let you know what to expect and often, a quieter alternative just around the corner.

Photo spots

Every hike has that one view that makes the whole climb worth it. I mark the spots I keep thinking about long after I’m back home.

Getting there

Switzerland’s trains and buses are a joy to use. I’ll give you the connections that actually work, with or without a car.

Gear & what to bring

No gear obsession, just a honest list of what made the day better and what I wish I’d left at home.

Who am I?

I am Leon. I moved to Switzerland 4 years ago and as a foreigner I get to appreciate the Swiss mountains in a completely different light than the locals. I frequently researched, planned and hiked routes suggested on Social Media, however, I discovered that the best spots and hikes come from personal recommendations or individual discoveries. This is why, in this blog, I aim to create a library of hikes, spots and activities that make the most of your time, while avoiding the crowds on the popular, well known hikes, that you know from social media.

This picture was taken on the Schilthorn Descent at around 2600 meters.
